Life is Beautiful

"Life is Beautiful" is a movie about a Jewish man's romance story together with his humor, but also using this humor to protect his son from a Nazi prison and sacrificed himself for his son. Audiences can be able to feel both comedy and romance in this movie.

The director of this movie, started the movie by a blur man's voice telling a story of him to the audience. He said, "A simple story, but not easy to tell. Like a fable, there is sorrow. Like a fable, it is full of wonder and happiness". At first, I thought the man's voice belong to Guito, the male lead of the story, but ended up is Joshua, Guito's son telling the story of his father.  Although it is a comedy in the front part of the movie, but the last part of the movie is quite sad.

The male leading actor, Guito, is a Jewish. He always has this humor sense with him when he talked. I think he is a positive thinking man and a resilience man as well. No matter how difficult his life is facing, he still be able to connect it to humorous way to make him and others laugh. Plus, he can make many humor sense in different situation and bragging things with his humor sense, without having people hate his humor sense. For example, when he impersonated as the inspector from Rome in a school, he just went there because he wanted to see Dora, the woman he likes. But when he was asked to share about their race is a superior race, he was a bit shocked and just try to brag anything that came to his mind, and it ended up as some kind of humor talk in it together with the children. Although, the real inspector came after that, the movie did not show any bad actions taken to Guito. It just shown how he left the place by jumping off the window from the school.

Another example is when Guito and his son, Joshua, together with his wife, Dora was sent to a Navi camp, which also sort of like a prison, because of Guito's race. People in the camp were all Jewish, and they were all like prisoners inside, doing hard work to built tank for their country, like a slave. It is really stressful for people, especially innocent people to live in a prison-like camp, doing hard work like slave and live like a slave. But Guito, still think of humor ways to comfort both his son and wife. For example, Guito do not want to let Joshua know that they were being sent to prison, that is why he came out an story to deceive his son that they are now playing games here, whoever get 1000 points will get a real tank, if not they will need to go home, rather than telling him the truth. Plus, he always try his best to comfort his son and wife. For example, he spoke to his wife through a loudspeaker to comfort his wife through his voice, although he knew it is dangerous to do this thing. He also tune the music for his wife to listen while he is serving the captains' of the army in a dinner. In my opinion of view, I think Guito did a lot to his wife and son. As long as his wife and son is happy, he will be happy, because throughout the whole movie, he did not do anything for himself but for his family with his humorous sense. He might had a lot of stress, but I think he choose to cope with it by making others happy and laugh.

Moreover, making others happy might be the spirit of him to cope with stresses too, especially his family. For example, when Guito came back after doing hard work in the camp, he looks tired and his leg is trembling. But he still welcome Joshua happily when he saw him. He still cheer Joshua up and teach him the ways to hide himself from the mean people. Rather than telling him the truth, he told Joshua to hide just like playing hide and seek, do not let others find out about him. From here, maybe Joshua is too young to know about all these things, that is why Guito thought about telling Joshua that it is a game, so that he can listen to him well. Plus, in the last scene of the movie, when the Navi's was defeated by US, the Navi's army started to escape. At that time, Guito wants to save his wife and son. However, he cannot save both at the same time and that is why he asked Joshua to hide himself in a box thing.

But there is a touching point in this whole movie, where Guito was discovered by the Navi's army of entering the women's army camp, the soldier brought him to a corner to kill him. But before going to the corner, knowing he will die, he passby the box where Joshua was hiding. In order to protect his son, he did not express sadness or negative emotions immediately but acted like a happy man in front of his son. Maybe because when his son knows the truth at that time, he might rush out the box just wants his daddy back, and might ended putting his life to an end.

In this movie, Guito, is reallly a good husband and father. He is willing to do anything just for his family. I think that because of his sincerity and kind-hearted, although he had deceived his son by telling him that they are in a game, it actually became true. Joshua was the only kid in the camp, and a real tank from US came and give him a lift. It was like a dream.

Throughout the movie, I think the director wants to express a message to the audiences that no matter how hardship you are facing in your life, always think positively and laugh always, good things will happen after that. I think this word will be a very good word, especially for those who are having stresses in their life, because normally people who are stress will tend to be think more negatively and ended up having depressed life. I think this movie might help them to re-think about their situation and also cope with their stress too.

Overall, I think that this is a good movie, and especially is my first time seeing Italian movie, it was a good experience for me.

Parenthood (1989)

"Parenthood" is a movie about the ways the Buckman families communicate with their children and their parenting style. The movie focus more on families of Frank's children, which is Gil, Helen, Susan and Larry. These four families use different parenting style towards their children, however, I will just compare two families, which are Gil and Susan's families.

Gil had an unpleasant childhood memories, where his father always left him to an usher when he was brought to see baseball game. It was shown in the beginning of the scene, where he talked to his amalgam, a combination of several ushers that his dad had left him over the years. Gil said that he was raised up without a positive male influences and his father was taught that child-raising is kind of job, a burden rather than a playground. Due to all these unpleasant memories, Gil swore that he will not treat his children like that, he want them to be happy, strong and confident, not like him himself. So when he grew up and married, he had three children, which is Kevin, Taylor and Justin.

Gil is a good father that willing to do anything for his children. His parenting style is kind of permissive style. He always being supportive to his children. No matter what they did, he always support them and allow them to do what they want to do. However, Gil is the kind of parent that over supportive to his children. Overly supportive had brought some consequences to his children. In Kevin's case, Kevin has an emotional problems in school. According to his school teacher, he is a sweet, sensitive and tense little boy who needs special attention from his teacher. He always get teased and blamed by his classmates and in Little League. He has no confidence in himself and scared to face the reality.

For example, when Gil brought the whole family to play, some kid took Kevin's money, but he do not dare to say and just want to go home. He do not fight for his own rights and Gil did not even fight for him, but rather let Kevin to decide what to do. In this case, it is not the right way that Gil showed his supportive to Kevin, because he needs to teach Kevin about his rights and know what is right and wrong, rather than support him to not face the reality.

For Justin, Gil's youngest son, who is a very active boy but likes to butt his head to things. But Gil know that but just let it be because he wants his children to do what they want to do. It is not an appropriate way of supportive here though, because if Gil does not try to stop Justin's behavior, it might get worse.

Despite the negative consequences, there still have positive consequences too. In order to help Kevin in his emotional problems, Gil spend more time with him by coaching in the Little League and held a birthday party for him. He even pretend to be a cowboy in Kevin's birthday party and try his best to make the children laugh so that Kevin will not be disappoint of the absence of Cowboy Dan. Moreover, no matter how Kevin was teased by his classmates, he always cheer him up.

However, unlike Gil's family, Susan's family is totally opposite from Gil. In Susan's family, the parenting style that they use is kind of authoritative style. Nathan, Susan's husband is a very commanding person. He has high expectation to his daughter and also his wife as well. Despite the fact that his daughter, Patty is a small kid who age between 4-5 years old, he treat Patty like an adult. She studies Maths, Geography, Spanish and so on. Patty do not learn how to have fun in her age, but to study hard as much as she can.

In Nathan's point of view, he thinks that children are more capable of retaining and absorbing information that the adults are, that is why he keeps on push Patty to study as much as she can. He even plan a study program for her too. However, he did not teach Patty to socialized with people because he thinks that it is not the right age for Patty to be socially activated now. That is why I think that Patty is quite a sad character in this movie, because she cannot enjoy the fun that she should has in her age and has no abilities to communicate or relate with other children too.

For example in Kevin's birthday party, when Gil showed his thumb trick to the children, the children were excited except Patty. She was kind of shocked and started to scream as soon as she saw the trick. She also cannot understand why Justin was spinning around and do not think that it is a fun thing to do too. In Nathan's family, I think that Nathan put too much stress to Patty consider her age and also too protective from environmental influences. Nathan only teaches Patty to study, to gain knowledge. He wants her daughter to be perfect. In one of the Chinese idioms, there are saying that, "Failure is the key to success". However, what Nathan is doing now to Patty might cause negative consequences later where Patty do not know what is failure and will refuse to accept failure too, if she happen to face failure in the future. Moreover, she had no good and fun childhood memories too besides studying.

Too compare both Gil and Susan's family, I think both families are in an extreme style of parenting. Extremely over protective and over pushing to their children. If both of these families can learn from each other, share their stories and apply it in their family, it might be a good mixed parenting style to their children. For example, if Gil could have a little expectation to their children, they might learn and try to reach it, rather than just overly let them to do what they want to do. And for Nathan, if only he could allow Patty to express her thoughts, allow her to socialize with children and allow her to have fun, it might help Patty to be more like human being rather than like a robot who just know how to study. For me, it is important that a person knows how to study well and also play well. If Nathan willing to change a bit, Patty might become a person that not only study well, but also play well too.

Therefore, it is also a challenge to Gil and Nathan to change their perspective in raising their children. For Gil, he is the kind of person that does not like changes and has a lot of worries. He worries that other might treat Kevin differently because of his emotional problems and do not want to admit the problem that Kevin is encountering. He worries that he cannot handle the fourth kid that Karen is bearing with.
He even worry about Kevin's problem when he is making love with Karen. Plus, he wants things to just like how it be now and refuse any changes. That is why in one of the scene where Gil's grandma describe him as a merry go round, where it just go around and nothing change. Luckily after going through the argument with his wife and for the sake of his children, he finally change his perspective a bit. He is willing to change and accept the reality too. For Nathan, he is the kind of commanding person. Maybe because of his career, he is also quite commanding in his family and wants perfection in his family too.

The challenge to Nathan is also change because he refuse to change the style that he is using now to his daughter. However, due to his love to Susan, he actually do willing to change himself a little bit because when Susan left the home, he went to the school where Susan is teaching and sang her their wedding song to persuade her to go back his side.

Overall, this is quite an interesting movie that talks about parenting style and fortunately everyone is in a happy ending. I think that the director is quite smart to use a lot of humorous ways and jokes to present this movie. But unfortunately, I cannot really understand the jokes that present in the movie, maybe because I did not watch English movies or dramas that often. However, looking others laughing at the jokes, I felt that the director did a great job. At least the movie is not a boring movie. This movie also allows a lot of people to be prepare or cautious to their parenting styles, no matter in the present or in the future. It is not only a movie, but a movie that educate people too.

Departure

"Departure" is a Japanese movie about a former cello musician force to change his cello career to a career that preparing the dead for funerals because of the disbanded of his orchestra. The director of this movie is quite an humorous and emotional people because of the ways he used to film this movie. For most of the people around the world, especially Asian, always have the prejudice of career that preparing the dead for funerals. Most of the people might think that it is not a pleasure career, not a clean career, or even a scary career too. But the director, used an unique way to introduce this career and somehow break the prejudice that the audiences might have.

The starting of this movie, the director of the movie wants to give an understanding of encoffinment's job to the audience, he used Daigo, the male leading actor, explained the encoffinment's job is to prepare the deceased for a peaceful departure and showed no differences of attitude towards culture nor gender while he is preparing a transgender deceased for a peaceful departure. While preparing the procedure, each step is so careful, considerate and calm. From that scene, audience can somehow get a little bit of understanding of this movie.

Although the word "departure" means leaving a place and start a journey, different situation can have different meaning. For example, for ordinary people, "departure" means travel to another country or places. But for those dead ones, "departure" means to start another journey after death. In another word, leave this world peacefully. From here, different people have different perspectives, and this is also how Daito got into this encoffinment job while watching the word "departure" on the news while finding his job, thinking that it might be an travel agency. The director also used a humor way in this scene showing that there was a misprint word from "departed" to "departure" in the advertisement newspaper. Everything started with an misunderstanding word, but somehow seems like is a fate for Daito.

Daito's boss, is quite an intelligent and patience person. He thought of using job advertisement in newspaper to recruit workers. Plus, he also used broadcasting media to shoot the procedure of casketing, to bring knowledge of this career to the public so that they will not misunderstand or have prejudice about it.

In the middle of the movie, although Daito cannot get used himself to the job in the beginning, but after watching few cases of his boss doing the procedure and his first case on putting up make up on the deceased, his attitude change. Moreover, after receiving the gratitude from the deceased's family, he was moved and his feeling started to change slowly. The director showed a few scene of different deceased case in the movie, and from it got deceased from different ages, gender and even religion. It is quite fascinating to see such funeral culture in Japan, and also the emotions of different family too depends on the age of the deceased.

When Daito accept the encoffinment job in the beginning, he deceived his wife from it because he afraid that she will not agree of his job. However, when his wife found it through the broadcasting program, she was quite shocked and cannot accept it. She has the usual perspective that most people have, which is encoffinment is a dirty and ashamed job who touch the corpse, because of the lack of knowledge of them on the job. Although Daito's wife persuade him to quit his job, but Daito refused to because he know the real meaning of the job, which is to help the deceased family by preparing the deceased to have a peaceful journey.

Fortunately, Daito's wife get to understand him while watching him preparing the deceased, which is the bathhouse's owner. The way Daito's work and out make up to the deceased, made her change her mind and realized that this is not a dirty job, but a beautiful job. A job that not only prepare the deceased to a peaceful journey, but also to comfort the families too who are left behind. The most dramatic part is that when the deceased is Daito's father. Daito hated his father because he left him when he was young. But when the part that Daito preparing the casketing procedure on his father, there showed some sadness, touching and somehow happy ending to his family because he forgives his father's wrongdoing.

After watching this whole movie, I, who had zero knowledge about encoffinment, coming to know more about this job, and somehow respect those people who are in this career field. It is a respectful and great job, because not many person will willing to do a job that requires to touch dead people or even putting make up on them. It also requires braveness, patience, calmness and respectfulness too. Moreover, this movie is a great movie because it combines humor and love inside. To be honestly, I actually spread some tears while watching him prepare the deceased and his father to make them more prettier on their last day on earth before they leave.

Actually on the screening day, Dr. Goh showed us two movies, which is "Departure" and "Grace is Gone". In "Departure", focus more on a job that prepare the deceased for a peaceful journey as a way to pay respect to the deceased and comfort the family that being left behind. In "Grace is Gone", focus on a guy who lose his beloved one suddenly and the way he cope it. Two different stories but somehow share a similar element, which is grief.

While watching these two movies, especially watching "Grace is Gone", I keep on thinking of the sad incident which happened recently, which is the missing of MH 370 flight. The sudden missing of the flight and continuos rumors made so many people worried, and even the passengers' family member, feel helplessness and can only wait for news. The feeling they have, the grief they have are hard to cope and it was tremendously sad because it just happened so sudden. However, I did not choose to write it because "Departure" actually made me more impressive and memorable. This most probably is the best movie that I had ever seen until now.

When a Man Loves a Woman

"When a Man Loves a Woman" is a movie about a pilot and his alcoholic wife and how they overcome the problems that they faced in their family, especially his wife's alcoholic problems get serious.

Alice, the alcoholic wife, was a serious alcoholism, she always drink alcohol no matter in day time or night time. She cannot control her desire to drink alcohol too. She also mentioned in the movie that if she do not drink, she cannot do anything. Here showed that she already depends on alcohol. In DSM IV-TR, one of the criteria for substance abuse is recurrent substance use resulting in a failure to fulfill major role obligation at work, school or home. In the movie, Alice showed this symptoms too. For example, at work, a girl came to find her because of a boy glance her breast and caused sexual harassment to the girl, Alice cannot really solved the problem for the girl. Plus, the position of her sitting in the office when talking to the girl was not appropriate too. The sitting position might gave a kind of rejection feeling for the girl who is talking to her. Moreover, because of drinking alcohol, she even left her daughter behind in some places, where she cannot even remember.

In this movie, one of the causes of Alice's alcoholism might be genetic, because her father was also an alcoholism. The other cause might be because of her husband, Michael, an pilot. He always fly off to work and do not stay in the house for a couple days. In the beginning of the movie, I thought that Alice drinks because she might feel lonely and helpless when her husband not around. She drinks to get her husband's attention and care more. But later in the movie, when Alice came back from treatment, I can get a fully understanding about the whole movie. The reason she drinks because she always felt weak and helplessness about herself, no matter at work or home. Drinking alcohol makes her feels better and confidence to do things. Fortunately, she able to recover from her alcoholism in the help of her daughters, friends and also the love of her husband.

As the spouse of an alcoholism, Michael, of course, also suffered from some kind of emotional abuse at home. However, he denies the fact. He always do his best to love his wife. Even though his wife is an alcoholism, he still loves her very much. However, maybe because Michael is a professional pilot, he cannot received the fact that he got emotional abuse. When he visits a treatment where alcoholism's family attend, he said that those people are sorry for themselves and rather be an victim than try to fix the problems. In Michael's point of view, any problems can be fix if you try and if anything is scheduled, just rescheduled it. Michael has his own ways of problem solution to his family. Michael's behavior makes Alice feels irritated, because she felt that she is useless beside him and belittled by him. When I saw this scene, I suddenly feel that an overwhelmed love can actually makes one suffer too, in a sense that they just love the other using their own ways, without asking or listening others' opinion.

In the scene where Michael and Alice had a big fight, Michael left home. During the days he left the home, he began to reflects on himself by attending the group therapy for alcoholism family. Alice also doing well too in her recovery treatment, and even give talks to other alcoholism patients. In the end of the movie, Alice said her side of story and also her reason to shut her husband out because she do not want to let Michael see her weakness side. On the other hand, when Alice finished her talk, Michael appeared and reflected himself to Alice, saying that although his wife going through hard times and he helped to solve it, but he lacks listening to her wife, really listening. That is the reason why he made his wife felt irritated and suffering. From here, I also realized one thing that, love requires listening too. In order to maintain relationship, one must love and care for each others, but that also requires listening and tolerant, because if only one-side always giving effort and one-side do not, they will get hurt and will not last long. Fortunately, the movie end in a happy ending, where Alice stops to drink alcohol for 184 days, and Michael realized what he had done and reflect on it. This also showed that one must not escape from reality, but to face it in order to solve any problems.

Chariots of Fire (1981)

"Chariots of Fire" is a movie about two British young men, who came from different background, a determined Jew and devoted Christian compete in the Olympics Games on 1924. The director of this movie used real life incident to shoot it. It was quite an impressed movie because it is consider a part of history especially to those youngster these days as it is quite an old movie.

In the movie, Eric Liddell, a devoted Christian and a rugby player was encouraged by Sandy, his friend to run again. While the Scot citizen having a welcoming home party for Eric and his family, Sandy use this chance to ask Eric to run to show his paces to Scotland. And through this race, Eric's father and Sandy can see that Eric still has the passion to run. As expected, he won the race too in Scotland. Later Sandy and Eric's persuade him to run again for Olympic.

In the movie, Eric said this before, that he feel God's pleasure while he run and when he win, he honor God. I think, as an audience, the motivation to make Eric to run is from his beliefs to God, because he believe that God made him for a purpose. God motivates him to run in every races. For a devoted Christian like Eric, running on a Sabbath Day, which is Sunday, is against God's law, because Sabbath Day is a day to worship the Lord. Although the Olympic race is in Sabbath Day, Eric still refuse to run despite the objection of the Olympic committee, because of his faith to God. Fortunately, Lord Lindsay suggested to change Eric's race to 400m run, the problem solved and everyone agreed with it.

Usually, for an athlete who are trained to run 100m is difficult to run 400m, because of the length of the race, their stamina and different strategy used in the race. However, because of Eric's faith in God,  he run as fast as he can until he can see the end of the tape. Plus, his strong rival from USA, Taylors underestimate Eric because of his coach's word. I think that these are the reason why he win the race.

For another character, Harold Abraham, is a determined Jew, a fast runner and also a good singer. Harold is known as a fast runner and no one beat him in the race until Eric's appearance. In the beginning when Harold run, he run to win in no matter what cost but within the rules. If the races he run did not win, he will quit. This showed that Harold is a very competitive guy and must hold his place firmly. But when he and Eric met in the race, he lost to Eric and he also gain fear of losing within himself.

Harold cannot accept the fact that he lose to Eric, because he is the best until now and did not lose before. Moreover, he thinks that he cannot improve anymore. But at this time, Mr. Mussabini approach him, encourage him and give him personal training, because all this time Harold was trained alone for every race and did not receive proper training. In order to beat Eric and other fast runner in the next race, Harold trained very hard. After going through Mr. Mussabini's hard training, Harold seems to improve his running. However, the fear of losing still with Harold. During the Olympic Games when Harold receiving body massage from his coach, he confessed his feeling to his friend that he is afraid of win after all what had happened.

Just on that day, where Harold has his final race in Olympic, he received a letter from his coach, encouraging him, support him to run and also gave him a charm, which his coach's father swore by it. The encouragement of his coach and his friends help Harold to overcome the fear in himself, and run all his might and win the race.

Conclusion, as an athlete myself, I can feel the feelings inside the movie. The motivation, the losing, the encouragement and winning. But in the last scene of the movie, I realized that Harold and Eric actually became friend although they were rivals or maybe enemy, but sports bring them as one and together. This is quite a good and touching movie.

Dances with Wolves

Movie "Dances with Wolves" is a movie about an Union Army Officer, Lieutenant John J. Dunbar, who requested to be promote to the frontier post, which is an Indian country, and his lifestyle in the frontier post, where he make friends with the wolves and Indians, and to the extent that change his viewpoint of being White man.

This movie is about racism too in the 1860s, which talks about the prejudice that the U.S people have in the Indians. For me, John Dunbar is an open minded person, because in the movie, he was different with other U.S army, he was willing to communicate with the Indians, share things with them, fight for them too. And on the other hand, I think that "Kicking Bird" is also a wise man, because of his patient and open minded too, he first try to approach John Dunbar, where everyone of the Indians were actually opposed it.

In this movie, I learn that individuals can actually change their perspectives to a group that they had prejudice before if they try to understand their culture and values. When the time goes by, John Dunbar actually adopted the Indians culture and understand them, although in the beginning he cannot really understand it. For example, when one scene, where the Pawnies loses the battle with the Indians, and the Indians took down one of the Pawnies in the river, John Dunbar said this word in his mind that the Indians did not fight for territory or make men free, but fight for to preserve the food stores and protect the lives of their loved ones, and it made John Dunbar decided to look it in a new way and he felt pride in himself in this battle. Plus, when become friends to the Indians, John Dunbar realized that many of the negative thoughts of Indians that he were told was not true, it also means that many White man have negative prejudice to the Indians. And so as the Indians too.

In this movie, I found that "Wind of His Hair" is quite an interesting character too. Although in the beginning of the movie he was strongly object the idea of approaching John Dunbar, because he hate the White man and said that they do not know how to shoot, how to ride and they are dirty. But after few times of interaction with John Dunbar and food sharing, and even shirt trading, he began to change his perspective as well. He did not act so friendly with John Dunbar, but his initial heart is quite a warm person and express his friendship love to John Dunbar differently. In the last scene, he went up to the hill and shout out loud to John Dunbar that he will be his best friend forever while doing the last farewell to John Dunbar. It is quite a touching scene and showed another kind of expression too.

Moreover, cannot miss this scene is that I think that most of the Whites and even the audiences who watched this movie in the beginning will form a negative prejudice to the Indians first, because they mistaken that the Pawnies are the Indians due to their similar appearances. In my case, I actually did mistaken the Pawnies are the Indians because in the beginning of the movie, showed three Indian guys (who is actually Pawnies) killed Timmon, the guy who took John Dunbar to the frontier, in a very crucial way. At that time, I was thinking why these Indians are so cruel, they killed the Whites and stole their property too. But after watching the movie until the end, I only managed to understand that the Pawnies are the bad ones, and the Indians, which is Sioux, are the kind ones.

Finally in conclusion, I think that to understand one's culture and values is very important before having any negative thoughts on others. Even if is from the same race and ethnicity, there always have good and bad ones inside. So for the other minority races, they also have good and bad ones too.  As in Malaysia context, I remember I was kind of prejudice too, towards the Malay and Indians. But after having friends who are Malays and Indians, my perspectives actually changed and understand that everyone is the same, regardless their skin color. Therefore, do not judge one person by their appearance is what I have learned in this movie, and also try to understand them as well.

Mississippi Burning

Mississippi burning is a movie of two FBI agents, who went to a small town called Mississippi, where people divided their culture to white culture and colored culture, to investigate the three missing civil right workers.

While watching the movie, I felt so angry throughout the movie because of the violence that the White men treat those Black men, when they did not do anything wrong. They get treated differently because of their skin color, and treated unfairly too. In the beginning of the movie, the director used an unique way to express the white and colored culture. The water dispenser from the white is obviously more better that the colored side. It can seen from here that the differences and status between white and colored are serious.

Plus, when the FBI team start their searching in the swamp, the residence in Mississippi also speak their opinion of the FBI's action. One of them said it is kind of plan, or show, to let other people laugh at Mississippi folks. Some of them said they deserved it too. And when the reporter asked about how Negroes is treated in Mississippi, some of them said they are being treated fairly as they ought to be. But from the interview, it seems that each White citizen in Mississippi has prejudice towards the Negroes, as they said they do not take bath, they are stink and nasty, and all sorts of negative perspective towards the Negroes because they are taught to think the Negroes are like that since young.

Moreover, when the investigating is going on, the Klu Klux Klan interrupt the investigating by using violence to the Negroes, threaten them, burn the churches and killed them to avoid them talking to the FBI. When the movie showed this scene, I felt so angry and heartbreaking, because I still cannot understand why people can do all sort of these violent things and kill people without feeling guilty and ashamed. Maybe something is wrong in their nerve brain.

And as a Christian, I feel angry too when they showed the scene of the Klu Klux Klan burning the Negroes' churches. Although Dr.Goh had explained that there are no religion conflict in Mississippi, because the Whites are also Christian, but still the anger still cannot fade away. The reason they burned down the churches is that they see the Negroes are so organized in churches, and they want to prevent them to be so organized so they burned the churched. From my opinion, I think that their actions somehow reflect their fear, that the Negroes will get stronger a day and take revenge to them, so they are preventing them using violence.

Lastly, luckily the both FBI agents did not give up searching for the three missing civil rights workers and the truth despite the obstacles and difficulties they faced in Mississippi, they success to find the dead body of the civil rights workers, put charges to the Klu Klux Klan that killed the three civil rights workers, and I think they also managed to make a good start for the citizen to know the seriousness of prejudice to the Negroes and find a way to solve it too, because the racist and prejudice toward the Negroes are getting lesser these days.

And the last scene of the movie, the director showed the tomb written "Not Forgotten". I think the tomb is to remind people about the incident and prevent the repeating mistakes to do in the future as history are always a lesson that learned from their repeating mistake.

Conclusion, I gain some history knowledge about Mississippi, because before this movie, I do not even know where is Mississippi. Plus, when I watch the movie, I began to reflect on myself too about the prejudice I have to the Negroes, as I was told by my family that the Negroes in Malaysia are bad, they are smelly and so on. Although I did not do bad things to the Negroes, but I admit that I do have prejudice toward the Negroes in Malaysia. However, through this movie, I felt that I am as bad as the people from the movie too. Therefore, I want to try to change my perspective towards the Negroes, and try to make friends with them despite the prejudice I have on them, because I do not want to become like the White in the movie neither do I want to become a person that full of racist and prejudice.
